From village to maternity ward: a midwife's journey

“Growing up, the nearest health centre was an hour's walk from my village. I watched mothers travel that road in labour, and I promised myself I would be the person waiting for them at the other end.”

“I took sciences at school, then trained in midwifery at the University of Rwanda. The clinical placements were the turning point — the first time I helped bring a baby safely into the world, I knew this was my calling.”

“Today I work in a district hospital, and some of the mothers I care for come from villages just like mine. Every safe birth feels personal. If you care about people and you're willing to work hard, midwifery will give you a life full of meaning.”
